Growth Habits: Deciduous tree, 40 to 60 feet tall (12-18 m) in landscapes, but much bigger in the wild; deeply fissured gray brown bark; glabrous dark green leaves, 2 to 5 inches long (5-12 cm), 0.8 to 2.5 inches wide (2-6.5 cm), with 3 to 7 pairs of rounded lobes, and very short reddish brown petioles (distinguishing feature from Quercus alba)

Propagation: Fresh seeds, don't let the acorns dry out If the acorns are not fresh, they need to be stratified for at least a month, named varieties are grafted.
