Origin: Hybrid of Cupressus macrocarpa × Chamaecyparis nootkatensis

Growth Habits: Evergreen tree, fast growing, 12 to 70 feet tall (3.6-21 m), 12 to 15 feet wide (3.6-4.5 m), narrow, oblong crown; Reddish brown, with gray weathered strips when mature; green to bluish-green scale-like leaves, 0.06 to 0.12 inch long (3-6 mm), , arranged in flat sprays

Watering Needs: Moderate water, well drained soil

Propagation: Semi-ripe cuttings in late summer, not very easy.

His shape makes it a good Christmas tree in the southern U.S.
Cultivars:
'Castlewellan Gold' - yellow new growth, with bronze foliage in winter, 25 to 40 feet tall (7.5-12 m) and 10 feet wide (3 m).
'Gold Pride', 'Golconda' - golden foliage, compact pyramidal form.
'Grelive' - bright green foliage, narrow pyramidal form, 60 feet tall (18 m), 15 feet wide (4.5 m).
'Hillspire' - bright green foliage, narrow pyramidal form.
'Moncal' - bright green foliage, 20 to 25 feet tall (6-7.5 m) and 6-8 feet wide (1.8-2.4 m) with a dense habit.
'Naylor's Blue' - bluish foliage, a pyramidal cultivar, up to 35 feet tall (10 m) and 15 feet wide (4.5 m), more open, and slower growing than the type.

Fruiting Habits:
Rarely fruits. They are round, brown, small cone, 0.5 to 0.76 inch in diameter (12-18 mm), with 8 scales, and about 5 seeds per scale.
