Growth Habits: Solitary, up to 8 feet tall (2.4 m), 40 inches wide (1 m); 15 to 30 ribs or more; oval areoles with brown wool, 0.8 to 1 inch apart (2-2.5 cm); 1 central spine flattened, often hooked, 1.6 to 4 inches long (4-10 cm); 7 to 9 white or reddish radials, up to 2.4 inches long (6 cm).

Blooming Habits:
Red funnel-shaped flowers in June to August, up to 3 inches long (7.5 cm), 2 to 2.8 inches wide (5-7 cm). Fruit ovoid to oblong, 2 inches long (5 cm), 1.2 inches in diameter (3 cm), with heart-shaped scales.
