Astrophytum

Astrophytum, also called "Star Cacti", is a very popular genus of cacti. It contains only 5 or 6 species of Mexican cacti, that are each beautiful and relatively easy to grow. The plants are globular when young with a small number of ribs that are prominent and covered this white scales and flecks. Their flowers are yellow, followed by a hairy fruit.

They are grown from seeds, but are often grafted to allow them to grow faster. Although easy to grow, they are sensitive to root rot and should be watered with caution. Most species will take some frost.
