Leaves can cause dermatitis. Seed are sometimes sold as pink pepper. In large quantities, they can be toxic.

Cultural Practices:
Sensitive to Texas root rot. Roots can be invasive. Stake young plant, and protect the trunk from sunburn until the leaf coverage is sufficient. The branches are brittle and break easily during storms.
