The main rosette dies after blooming (it is called monocarpic), but produces a number of offsets before dying.
The species name "rupicola" means "living near rocks".

Propagation:
Soak the seeds for 24 hours before sowing. The seeds can take several months to germinate, the temperature should be above 70°F(21°C).
